Marge Monko
Marge Monko (1976, Tallinn) has studied at the Estonian Academy of Arts (MA in Photography, 2008) and at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. In 2012, she was awarded the Henkel Art Award. In 2013-2015 she participated in a studio program in HISK (Higher Institute for Contemporary Art), Ghent, Belgium. Her works can be found in various private and public collections (among them MUMOK – Museum of Modern Art in Vienna; Muzeum Sztuki Łódź, Poland; FRAC Lorraine, France; Fotomuseum Winterthur, Switzerland; Estonian Art Museum). Her shows include: Stones Agains Diamonds in Folkwang Museum, Essen, Germany (solo) and RIBOCA Riga Biennial of Contemporary Art (2018), It Won’t Be Long Now, Comrades! in Framer Framed, Amsterdam and Summer of Love in Art Space Pythagorion, Samos, Greece (2017), Playground festival in Museum M, Leuven, Belgium (2016). She is currently head of the Photography Department at the Estonian Academy of Arts.
Most of Monko’s works have a link to some historical event and are influenced by psychoanalysis, feminism and the theory of visual culture.
