Making out on the Battlefield

Born in 1981 in Paris, Louis-Cyprien Rials practices photography and video art. After attending theater lessons at the conservatory, his aspiration to independent creation ways leaned him to choices that marked his artistic career.
In 2005, he left and lived for three years in Tokyo and organized his first exhibition, Koban. Since his return from Japan, he lives between Paris and Berlin and continues his researches. In 2010, he went on a first bike journey to Chernobyl and Eastern Europe. The following year, he left again for months : he crossed the former Yugoslavia, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Iraq, Georgia, Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh, Crimea, gathering as well shapes and landscapes than wholes closed areas, he sees as «unintentional nature parks». In 2012, he finished his first experimental fiction, the impersonal western Nessuno. As a resident of the Center of Photographic art of Bahrain from March to May 2014, he had an exhibition at the Jamsheer House, gave lessons and began several projects, notably, with the help of the researcher Pierre Lombard on the remains of civilization, Dilmun. On December of the same year, he was invited by the NCCA (National Center of Contemporary Art) to complete his icons project and the documentary project Russia America, while staying in a residency. He keeps involving in the creation of videos between art and meditative documentary, with the projects Holy Wars, Dilmun Highway ( Bahrain, 2014 ) and Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin ( Iraq, 2015 )
At Hestia Art Residency and Exhibitions Bureau, Louis-Cyprien stayed for three months and did a thorough research that resulted in his exhibition “Apprehending the Invisible” curated by Gaël Charbau at our space. Louis-Cyprien is also one of our represented artists.
